2002 North American Steel Construction Conference Scheduled April 22-24 in Seattle, Washington

February 2002– More than 40 technical sessions aimed at practicing structural engineers, fabricators, detailers, and erectors will highlight the 2002 North American Steel Construction Conference (NASCC 2002), scheduled April 24-27 at the Washington State Convention and Trade Center, 800 Convention Place, Seattle, Wash. Billed as the “most complete trade show dedicated completely to steel design and construction,” the event is sponsored by the American Institute of Steel Construction and co-hosted by AISC and the Canadian Institute of Steel Construction and the Mexican Institute of Steel Construction.

The conference program may be viewed and downloaded on the AISC Web site, www.aisc.org/calendar.asp?ar=32&co=131. March 27th is the deadline for pre-registration and hotel reservations.

The NASCC 2002 will feature educational sessions in five tracks: engineering, fabrication, detailing, erection, seismic, and SSRC (Structural Stability Research Council) sessions. In addition, “short courses” will be offered on marketing action plans, financial management for fabricators, and HSS connection design. Three plenary sessions are on the docket, including an Update on the World Trade Center, Innovative Design in Seattle, and the ACE (Architecture, Construction and Engineering) Mentoring Program (a partnership of universities, architects, interior designers, engineers, construction companies, professional organizations, and related corporations providing career direction to high school students). Tutorials are also on the agenda, including one on Practical Steel Design, 2-20 Stories (includes wind, low-seismic, and high-seismic design), and Fundamentals of Connection Design.

Eighteen organizations are participating in NAASCC 2002: American Galvanizers Association, American Iron and Steel Institute, American Society of Civil Engineers, American Welding Society, Construction Industry Institute, Council of American Structural Engineers, Edison Welding Institute, National Council of Structural Engineers Associations, National Institute of Steel Detailing, NEA–The Association of Union Constructors, Society for Protective Coatings, Steel Deck Institute, Steel Erectors Association of America, Steel Joist Institute, Steel Plate Fabricators Association, Steel Service Center Institute, Steel Tube Institute of North America, and the Structural Steel Research Council.
