GLCA Accepts Nominations
For Annual GARDE Award
Mar. 6, 2002 – Nominations will be accepted until March 22nd for the 7th Annual Gender and Race Diversification Excellence (GARDE) Award. The GARDE Award, which recognizes individuals, organizations, and programs that promote racial and gender diversity in the construction industry in Michigan, is sponsored by the Detroit-based Great Lakes Construction Alliance www.glca.cc.
Nominations for the award are judged on their success in increasing the numbers of minorities and women involved in construction. Nominees must document a significant proven success while promoting superior professional practices. Examples of the types of programs that may be nominated are those in which individuals, owners, contractors, labor organizations or design professionals recruit, train and use women and minorities on their construction crews; have demonstrated substantial support for placing women and minorities through their contract documents; are responsible for promoting the construction industry to youth via the schools and community initiatives, or are responsible for advertising or requiring their groups to be sensitive and proactive regarding minorities and women.

Twelve sets of the nomination must be submitted. The 7th Annual GARDE Awards will be presented May 7 at the Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History, 315 E. Warren Ave., Detroit.
