Celebrates Lord Stanley's Return
GLFEA member firm, Barton Malow Rigging Co., Oak Park, (www.bartonmalow.com), was at it again for the third time, setting in place a 2,500-pound replica of hockey's Stanley Cup at the Wayne County Building to celebrate the Detroit Red Wings' win of the 2002 Stanley Cup Championship. Although the replica cup was too tall, at 23 ft high x 10 ft. wide, to ride in the championship parade Monday, June 17th, it was hoisted into place early that morning. Barton

Malow Rigging donated the 5-member crew that refreshed the cup with a new coat of paint and then transported it downtown and installed it, using a 70-ton mobile self-propelled hydraulic crane donated by Allingham Crane Corp., Southfield.
This is the third time in six years that the Detroit Red Wings have won the Stanley Cup, and it's the third time in six years that Barton Malow Rigging has donated the labor to install the replica cup. The cup was first put on display atop the Wayne County Building in 1997. After the automobile accident involving Red Wings player Vladimir Konstantinov and trainer Sergei Mnatsakanov, in which Konstantinov suffered major head injuries, the replica cup was used as the focal point in a fund-raising effort for William Beaumont Hospital's Fund for Closed Head Injuries. Fans donated almost $50,000 to the effort. In 1998 and again this year, the cup was installed at the front door of the Wayne County Building so visitors could see names engraved on it of individuals who donated money to the fund.
Barton Malow Design donated design services to create the replica cup, which is constructed of an angle iron frame and sheet metal front. It was fabricated in 1997 by Partlan-Labadie Sheet Metal Co., Oak Park.
