Witt Industries is a 115 year old, family-owned, WBE with two divisions. The Witt Galvanizing division is composed of three plants: Plymouth, Ind., Muncie, Ind., and Cincinnati, Ohio. The Plymouth, Ind., plant is located within 2.5 hours of Grand Rapids, 3.5 hours of Lansing, 4.5 hours of Detroit, and 1.5 hours or less of Kalamazoo. The kettle at the 40,000-sq.-ft. Plymouth facility measures 45-ft. x 6-ft. x 8-ft. Kelly Wilson is in charge of customer service at the Plymouth plant. Witt Galvanizing has been expert in hot dip galvanizing for the steel fabrication industry since the 1920s. It has received numerous "Excellence in Galvanizing" awards from the American Galvanizers Association (AGA), most recently in 2002 in the artistic category for the sign sculpture at Jackson Tube in Piqua, Ohio. The project required Witt to disassemble, clean and galvanize hundreds of small pieces of steel tubing, necessitating scrupulous parts identification. Witt Galvanizing specializes in "hard-to-galvanize" items, and can dip products as small as structural bolts and as large as highway bridge beams.
Witt Industries was founded by George Witt in 1887 in Cincinnati, Ohio, as the Witt Cornice Company, providing slate and tin roofing services and producing decorative cornices for the construction industry. Today, Witt's great granddaughter Marcy Wydman is CEO of the company. Witt is an industry leader and a founding member of the AGA.
