Davis Iron Works
Following its incorporation in 1945, Davis Iron Works, Walled Lake, quickly developed a reputation as a specialist in fabricating and erecting metal stairs and handrails. It soon branched out to fabricating and erecting structural steel and miscellaneous metals for commercial, institutional and industrial projects. Among the firm's notable projects are the 150 West Jefferson building in downtown Detroit, the Prudential Towne Center in Southfield, and the Somerset Collection, Fairlane, Twelve Oaks, and Lakeside shopping malls. One of Davis Iron Works' monumental stair projects is the circular stairway erected at the Prudential Towne Center in Southfield. Current owner and president, Frank Nehr Sr., has been with the firm since 1956, and has been its owner since 1984. His son, Frank Nehr Jr., executive vice president, joined the company in 1990.
