2001 Steel Systems Excellence Awards Call for Nominations

The Great Lakes Fabricators and Erectors Association in collaboration with the Michigan Society of Professional Engineers and Structural Engineers Association of Michigan, announces a call for nominations for the 2001 Steel Systems Excellence Awards. The awards seek to encourage and reward excellence in design, engineering, fabrication, and erection of steel systems in projects located in Michigan. The awards will be presented at the MSPE Annual Meeting at Shanty Creek Resort in Bellaire on May 19, 2001.

Entries must be received no later than 4 p.m., April 20, 2001, by the GLFEA, 1001 Woodward Ave., Suite 1101, Detroit, MI 48226.

Awards will honor structural steel design and construction for projects built between Jan. 1, 1997, and December 31, 1999, in the following categories: large (over $5 million); medium (between $500,000 and $5 million), and small (under $500,000). Judges will consider the project's entire structural system, emphasizing:

• Innovation in solving project requirements;
• Advancement of the structural steel construction industry;
• Creativity in meeting or exceeding the owner's client's needs;
• Significance of engineering or construction achievement, and
• Social or economic impact on quality of life.
